Moving, caring, creating, through translation in France
Anne Querrien My proposal for the worshop is to deal with the following ideas - French difficulty with language: the history of French language as identifying true French people; the ambiguity of colonized people in this situation, becoming French or resisting, the language as a normative property, preventing French from translation and from speaking and reading foreign languages, fearing to be wrong. - Moving in translation: people in between langages and societies are proposing their own hypotheses for translation, are tracing a political space between reception and emission. Exemples from the translation of La Boétie, of Deleuze and Guattari. Exemples of immigrant interpretation of French law, litterature. - Taking care through translation: the work of Tobie Nathan, ethnopsychiatrist, taking care of people with the help of people from the same cultures, translating; the debate about it. The same question with people giving juridical advices to foreigners. The ambiguity of social workers and sociologists between the dominating society and minority groups; the question of integration. - Creating through translation: creation as an in between position, internetting elements coming from different milieus and cultures, in between different subjects and publics. Creation as translating rather than mixing, changing places and creating a new nexus.
