Networking 01: Schnittpunkt in Bucharest and Cluj, RO
20-25 October 2005 A six-day visit to the cities Bucharest and Cluj was dedicated to the history and structure of museums. This provided an opportunity to gain insights into traces of history in urban space and to examine the status of contemporary local exhibition practices. Taking into account strategies of visualizing cultural memory in exhibitions and museums as well as the production of hegemonic cultural interpretative patterns, the meetings, lectures, and discussions focused on changes and transitions in contemporary theoretical, museological, artistic and curatorial approaches in the specific historical and contemporary Romanian context. In this regard questions were raised about both the representation of history in the post-communist condition and possibilities for launching counter-strategies in the exhibition field.
